The UK Department for International Trade (DIT) will be accompanying Siddika Osman, Managing Director at Nkgwete IT Solutions, and Matt Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Kungfu, to London Tech Week (10-14 June 2019).
The five-day event showcases and celebrates the latest in tech innovation while providing networking, social, learning and business opportunities for global entrepreneurs, innovators and business leaders from the technology industry.
The DIT’s Director for Technology for Africa, Elena Williams, commented: “London Tech Week is the ideal platform for start-ups to connect with thought leaders, accelerators, corporates and solution providers across the industry and discover the latest innovative technologies.
“The UK is a global leader in digital tech investment, with a thriving tech community. London is the third-best global start-up ecosystem, offering endless opportunities for those companies looking to expand. The Innovation Partnerships which we have established, such as the roll-out of digital skills and entrepreneurship programmes, and the UK-SA Tech Hub, are a unique opportunity for the UK to work alongside and collaborate with South African entrepreneurs at the cutting-edge of technology.
“Later this year, we will also be hosting the first ever Prosperity Start-up Games in Cape Town, aimed at helping early-stage companies to improve their investor readiness and pitch for investment, sharing knowledge and expertise, and enhancing trade and investment between the UK and SA.
“The DIT’s Technology and Entrepreneurship team is exploring ways to adjust its approach to UK market access in Africa by focusing on macro-economic objectives through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), by challenging UK firms to use their capabilities to contribute to solving the gaps and challenges in our markets, and by encouraging them to partner with African firms. This effectively places a priority on long-term issues and opportunities for sustainable outcomes and shared prosperity.”
