Global digital content production company Snake Nation has launched its creative networking app in SA, to help local creators build their audience and distribute their content on the platform.

The mission-driven, culture, content and technology company, which also has offices in Cape Town, was launched in 2015 and is headquartered in in Atlanta, US.

Snake Nation empowers young multi-cultural millennial creators and coders to enter the global creative economy on their own terms, and build sustainable careers using its online networking platform, college societies and social studios dedicated to creatives in film, music, art, fashion, dance and tech.

As SA celebrates Youth Month this month, with the sobering reality of high unemployment figures and the lack of opportunities, Snake Nation has stepped into the breach, introducing what it calls a revolutionary opportunity for South African millennials and creatives to share in the monetisation of their work and reach a global audience.

The SnakeNation.io app is a creative networking and monetisation social media platform that will allow users to share content and interact with creative communities and earn in crypto-currency.

Through the Web app, digital content creators build an audience, distribute their product and drive value for brands in the global creative economy.

“Now, South Africans have the opportunity to get in on the act by generating their own content, curating and sharing and, importantly, also earn crypto tokens from their interactions with content, creators and brands,” says SnakeNation.io CEO and tech visionary Karl Carter.

“Media consumption has changed, and so has the world – millennials watch what they want, when they want and how they want. They have the buying power to move the needle and their diverse stories are not reflected in traditional media.”

SnakeNation.io members are incentivised for engaging with content like posting, flame-ups, comments and shares, and they can earn SnakeNation.io's digital currency – VNM (Venom Tokens).

For Africans, the app allows users to tap into a global opportunity where cultural and creative industries generate $58 billion in revenue annually, with millions of jobs created on the continent, according to the company.

The new media platform has founded a network of creative college societies, providing members with access to an audience of over eight million multicultural millennial creators and consumers globally.

It also drives awareness and participation in Southern Africa on 52 higher education campuses and reaches 600 000 students.

The Web app is currently available in beta download pending a public launch soon, and users can sign up free of charge.
