Healthcare technology company LifeQ has partnered with CardieX subsidiary, wearables and health apps provider CONNEQT in a deal that will see the firms develop health insights solutions for wearable device users in SA and across the globe.

LifeQ is a biotech and wearables start-up which was born out of Stellenbosch, Cape Town and later expanded to Atlanta, US.

The company provides smart watch, fitness tracker and other wearable device companies with the ability to accurately track the health status of their users through curated person-specific health data.

CONNEQT is a new consumer health firm launched by global health tech company CardieX in May, to focus on creating home vital signs monitors, wearable devices and consumer health apps.

As part of this partnership, LifeQ will provide CONNEQ’s suite of patented health technologies, dubbed the CONNEQT Band, with an additional fingertip photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor to complement CONNEQT’s heart-health-focused offerings with LifeQ’s range of physiological information offerings.

PPG is an optical measurement method that is often used for heart rate monitoring purposes.

“We are excited to collaborate with CONNEQT to further strengthen our wearable-based surveillance, screening and remote patient monitoring solutions,” says Laurie Olivier, CEO of LifeQ.

“This partnership will enable greater health insights and more effective treatment of especially cardiovascular illnesses.”

The CONNEQT Band was previously targeted at clinical applications. Following the partnership, it will now also be available for business, clinical and research customers that seek access to LifeQ’s broader health management and wellness solutions.

LifeQ’s network of partners include Samsung, Fossil, Xiaomi and Motorola, which offer the service to consumers across the globe.

By providing a 24/7 lens into the body, LifeQ says its solutions go beyond an everyday smartwatch, generating business-grade biometrics for consumers, athletes and the acutely and chronically ill, detecting health problems and preventing illness.

In addition to accessing a range of free insights and information via the CONNEQT Band and CONNEQT apps, end-users will also have access to the LifeQ app, which provides a 360-degree view on an individual’s health.

“We're excited about the partnership with LifeQ to jointly develop a world-class wearable health band focused on our advanced heart health biometrics and incorporating LifeQ's proprietary health parameters,” states Craig Cooper, CEO of CONNEQT.

“The opportunity for health-tech wearables is forecast to reach over $500 billion by 2027 and this collaboration sets the foundation for significant value opportunities in the wearable sector for both parties."
